1. Admission policy

Ideal applicants for the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
    The objective of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is to create individuals who can contribute to local communities, as well as individuals who can identify, analyze and solve the issues of modern society, including community issues. For this purpose, we provide a curriculum that places importance on cultural understanding from various perspectives and a multifaceted understanding of modern society. This fosters our students' abilities to create and introduce national and local Japanese cultures.
    To produce such competent individuals, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences seeks applicants who fully understand our diploma policy and curriculum policy. They must also have the academic skills, ability to take initiative and motivation described below.

[Cultural Innovation Course]
・Those who have the basic academic skills sufficient for acquiring specialized knowledge and skills related to specified areas of humanities (such as archeology, folklore studies, fine arts, history, philosophy, literature and foreign languages) ・Those who are motivated to pass on to the next generation, both domestically and internationally, tangible and intangible culture as the heritage of the human race and to accurately analyze the state of the world with a deep understanding of history ・Those who are capable of proactively taking part in developing local communities by supporting revitalization of local culture and globalization of local areas
[Social Management Course]
・Those who have the basic academic skills sufficient for acquiring specialized knowledge and skills related to specified areas of social sciences (such as economics, law, accounting, business administration, sociology, anthropology, statistics and information sciences) ・Those who are motivated to identify and solve the problems of modern society, including the aging society, decrease in population, as well as changes in the economic and industrial foundation ・Those who are capable of proactively taking part in developing local communities by helping local governments with policy-making, local business development and by working with local community members to solve their issues

2. Curriculum policy

 In order to provide a curriculum that places importance on cultural understanding from various perspectives and a multifaceted understanding of modern society, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences establishes the following curriculum policy for liberal arts and specialized education:
 
(1) Liberal arts education
・   You will acquire knowledge on a wide variety of subjects and the ability to use a foreign language, as well as develop the skills needed to accurately analyze both global and local issues. ・   Through practical learning experiences, such as entry-level seminars, you will learn the diversity of various international and local communities. At the same time, you will develop the ability to identify and solve problems that are common to all peoples and societies.
(2) Specialized education
・   By obtaining specialized knowledge and skills in the field of humanities and social sciences in addition to developing foreign language skills (such as English) through practical language education, you will gain the ability to understand culture from various perspectives and have a clear, accurate view of the complexity of modern society. ・   Through field work, exercises and your graduation project, you will acquire the skills to create and introduce Japanese culture, including fine, local traditional culture. You will also be able to apply your knowledge to help solve various problems affecting modern society, including local problems.
(3) Courses and programs
[Cultural Innovation Course]
 This course provides education that places importance on building the skills needed to accurately assess the value of domestic and international history and culture. It also creates and introduces national culture while learning specialized knowledge and skills in the field of humanities. The curriculum policy of each program in the Cultural Innovation Course is as follows:

[Cultural Resources Program]
・By acquiring the specialized abilities and techniques needed to appropriately handle both tangible and intangible cultural resources, you will cultivate a capacity to accurately understand the academic value of these cultural resources. ・You will develop the ability to practically apply specialized knowledge and techniques associated with assessment and storage of cultural resources to the discovery of new cultural resources. ・You will develop an inquisitive mindset that will follow you through your lifelong social mission, which is to understand the wisdom and spirit of the human race that produced the various cultural resources, as well as pass your understanding on to the next generation as cultural heritage for all humankind.
[Cultural Coexistence Program]
・By developing the human nature to comprehensively understand the value of cultural coexistence, you will acquire the ability to predict trends in an increasingly globalized society. ・By accurately analyzing the state of the world while gaining deep insight into domestic and international history and culture, you will build the capacity to solve the problems of modern society from a global perspective. ・You will develop an inquisitive mindset which will allow you to engage in lifelong deepening of your self-understanding, based on various values and awareness of diversity as society becomes more globalized.
[Social Management Course]
This course provides education that places importance on building the ability to apply knowledge to solve various problems affecting modern society, creating a better society while learning specialized knowledge and skills in the field of social sciences. The curriculum policy of each program in the Social Management Course is as follows:

[Economics and Law Program]
・You will develop the ability to accurately assess the state of problems related to the economy, finance, employment and lifestyle by using specialized knowledge and skills in economics and law. ・Through basic training which will allow you to understand the modern economy from an economy-wide perspective and to systematically comprehend law, you will develop creative, fair and appropriate problem-solving skills. ・You will build the intellectual strength required for active lifelong research into measures that can solve economic and legal problems.
[Corporate Strategy Program]
・You will acquire the skill to accurately analyze and gain insight into various issues associated with innovation and creation of new business and industry by using specialized knowledge and skills in business administration and accounting. ・In order to acquire the ability to contribute to the development of local companies and the revitalization of local industries, you will strengthen the skills needed to identify and solve problems, make proposals and communicate with others. ・You will build the intellectual strength required for active lifelong research into effective strategies that can solve corporate management problems.
[Community Initiative Program]
・You will acquire the skill to accurately analyze and gain insight into the history of a local community, its ideal state, as well as understand the psychology and behavior of local residents by using specialized knowledge and skills in sociology, anthropology, statistics and information science. ・You will develop the capacity to apply specialized knowledge, acquired through field work and project-based learning, to identify, analyze and solve community problems. ・You will build the intellectual strength required for active lifelong research into specific methods that can solve the various problems affecting modern society.

(4)Curriculum organization
    During your first year, you will primarily take liberal arts and program preparation classes with the objective of developing the basic knowledge required for learning specialized topics and to develop academic interest in a wide variety of topics. From the second half of your first year, you will attend lectures on specialized topics to deepen understanding of these subjects, in preparation to learn specialized topics in line with the curriculum of each course and program.
    In your second and third years, you will go through the program-specific curriculum to deepen your knowledge and skills in your chosen specialized field. You will be able to learn research ethics through field work and exercises. Liberal arts classes for senior students, such as career classes, will give you an opportunity to think about your life and how you might want to interact with society.
    When you enter your fourth year, you will select a research topic and start putting together what you have learned into your graduation project (or special research topic). Through this research, you will consolidate the specialized knowledge and skills you have learned while solidifying your post-graduation path.

3. Diploma policy

 The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences will grant a bachelor's degree (in humanities and social sciences) to those who (a) have acquired specialized knowledge and skills in the areas of humanities and social sciences in line with the curriculum based on the curriculum policy described above and (b) are capable of using the acquired knowledge and skills to develop local communities with a strong sense of morality and social responsibility.
 More specifically, students who have achieved the following goals will receive a bachelor's degree:
 
・Acquired rich insight, advanced knowledge and skills through liberal arts and specialized education, as well as developed the ability to gain a clear view about social trends based on a deep understanding of human nature. ・Built the capacity to solve various problems affecting modern society through practical application of the acquired specialized knowledge and skills. ・Developed an inquisitive mindset to achieve lifelong self-growth based on a deep insight into history and culture, as well as a far-reaching perspective on human society.
